Busy being born or busy dying?
81Let’s face it, we are always in transition. We move from one moment to the next. And anything can change from one moment to the next. And yet, even knowing this consciously, we hang on and cling to people, situations, material things that make us feel secure. And whenever something changes and something happens to these people, situations, material things that make us feel secure, we feel distraught, lost, unbalanced. And we hope for things to get “better” and “back on track” as soon as possible.
This hang for security can also show up in our day to day behavior. Resistance to “go with the flow” is a classic. And yet, when we look around, we observe people that seem to have less trouble going through life. They have an elegance and smooth way of dancing through life no matter what the circumstances are. What do they have that we don’t?
In my assessment it is their willingness to embrace whatever comes their way. To see each and every challenge as an opportunity to learn from, grow and expand. Their ability to take life more philosophically and what seems a huge deception today might be tomorrow’s accomplishment. It is their courage to just move forward instead of wallowing in self-pity and stories they tell themselves. To quote Bob Dylan: “he not busy being born, is busy dying”…
